Friendly and convenient
Nicely sized mid-quality holiday apartment (the top floor of Nordhelmstr. 4 in our case) with three single beds, kitchen including microwave, fridge, electric hob, kettle, filter coffee plus Tassimo capsule machine and dishwasher (tabs included). Good strength shower but no toiletries apart from toilet rolls and hand soap. WiFi a bit feeble. Beds fairly comfortable.
It’s a half hour walk or irregular bus from the ferry terminal (there are taxis too); three small supermarkets, a bakery and a couple of bicycle rentals within five minutes walk plus a superb Italian restaurant on the beach two minutes walk away.
In a fine location close to the beach but a fifteen-twenty minute walk from the centre of the small town of Norderney. We found it perfect for a couple of days, which lets you see most of the island, but also OK if you just want to laze for a week.
A couple of slightly odd money issues you should be aware of
1 - we booked via booking.com and paid per night plus a fairly hefty one off cleaning fee; reading the in-house stuff it seems other platforms charge by the day and you are expected to do a thorough clean yourself before leaving
2 - before being allowed on the return ferry to the mainland we had to provide evidence of how long we had stayed on the island in order to pay the appropriate rate of tourist tax. Hint: if you haven’t bought a return keep your outward ferry tickets !
