Since I was young, I often went abroad because of my parents’ work and Korean food was the biggest help to overcome my longing for Korea. In particular, I used to cook bulgogi quite often when I was overseas because it was easy to obtain ingredients from grocery stores and tasty, as well as very nutritious. I hope that those who have cancelled their trip to Korea or those who have not been to Korea can overcome the sadness with delicious dishes like this!

Ingredients
- 600g (one loaf) thinly-sliced beef (top sirloin)
- 1/2 onion (thinly sliced)
- 1/4 Carrot (thinly sliced)
- 2 Shiitake mushrooms (thinly sliced)
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- ground black pepper
Ingredients for bulgogi marinade
- 8 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 1.5 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of starch syrup
- 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
- 1/2 ground onion
Instructions
- Put the beef in a bowl and lightly press it with a wet kitchen towel to remove the blood.
- Season the meat by adding 1.5 tablespoons of sugar and 1 tablespoon of starch syrup.
- Let the meat age for around 1 hour. (Note: the seasoning is absorbed better and the stiffness of the meat is reduced when the meat is aged for half a day.)
- Marinate the beef by adding 8 tablespoons of soy sauce, half of an onion (ground), 1 tablespoon of chopped garlic, 2 tablespoons of sesame oil and a little ground black pepper.
- Cut carrots, onions and mushrooms into thin slices as desired.
- Let the meat age for another 30 minutes, stir fry the meat according to your preference.
