2. Ho Lee Fook
Ho Lee Fook, which literally means good fortune for your mouth is a funky and uber cool Chinese kitchen located in Soho, Central. Inspired by Hong Kong’s old school “cha chaan tengs” or tea restaurants, and the spirit of late-night Chinatown hangouts in New York of the 60’s, Hong Kong lifestyle and design company, G.O.D. provided the design and decor of the restaurant itself. Some of the people’s favourites include the renowned “Mom’s mostly cabbage, a little bit of pork” dumplings that comes with a dip of sacha soy dressing. This restaurant deserves all the accolades they have coming their way. For Year of the Dog, expect creative twists on traditional, symbolic dishes such as Sichuan-style chilli prawns and braised e-fu noodles with abalone. This New Year banquet will cost S$77 per person. Taiwanese-born chef Jowett Yu’s inventive approach to Chinese flavours is to be devoured with an open mind and a strong appetite.
