Mixed Experience Saved by Exceptional Evening Staff

I made a reservation on 11/13 with a special request for a first-floor room due to my mom’s mobility issues. Upon arrival, we were assigned a room on the third floor, which was completely unsuitable given our request. The front desk representative informed me that the manager, who could address the issue, was not on-site and was even out of town. This was unacceptable, and I insisted that the issue be resolved immediately. After considerable back-and-forth and being presented with irrelevant alternatives, they eventually honored my original request.
For the most part, this location has been my first choice, consistently providing a satisfying experience. However, this incident initially left me feeling disappointed and deserving of a 1-star review.
Later that evening, when it was time to settle in, we discovered that the air conditioning in the room was not functioning. It took three calls to the front desk before the issue was resolved. Despite these significant challenges, the evening representative’s genuine willingness to assist and ensure our comfort ultimately salvaged the situation. Their professionalism and dedication are the only reasons I awarded this location a 5-star rating. Without their efforts, this experience would have earned a 1-star review due to the poor handling of my initial request and the subsequent inconveniences.

Would have rated higher but A/C made annoying noises. No milk for cereal on any of the days we were there. I understand there may not be deliveries on weekends but the grocery store was a mile away. Otherwise the hotel was fine.

One Comfortable Night

This was a one night stay. Front desk staff was pleasant. Beds and pillows were just right. The room heat was controlled by a thermostat. Strangely each time the heat came on, it sounded like a train was in the distance blowing its horn. Shower had good pressure and the breakfast was a cold and hot buffet. There were plenty of choices to please everyone. This was the first time I have stayed in a hotel without a tv or two in the breakfast area. I rarely get a restful eight hours of sleep, I did this night! I would recommend this hotel.

Be sure to get up at 6:30 sharp if you want coffee or hot breakfast

I stayed 2 night here during a trip to Big Bend NP. It is a typical Holiday inn which is obviously understaffed. No one was at the reception desk when I arrived. When the receptionist eventually showed up, she "upgraded" me to a suite - I thought for a second was because I am an Elite member of IHG, and I later found out not to be the case, as I went back to ask for a room with 2 bed but was told that the rate I paid was for whatever room they have left and they don't have any other type of room left, which explains the so called upgrade. The upgraded room does have a sofa which can double as a bed but certainly not comfortable.
The next morning I went down for breakfast at 6:45 to find that they are out of coffee and hot breakfast items. Many people were waiting and joking. The yogurt, eggs and milk were locked inside a small fridge and to open it you'll have to ask for key from the staff who were busy preparing breakfast .
